Steps to Becoming a MRL Volunteer

Morrisson-Reeves Library is very proud of its talented and diverse group of volunteers. With the guidance and support of Library staff, volunteers donate their time, extending the reach of the Library and getting the community involved. If you are interested in becoming a Morrisson-Reeves Library volunteer, please follow these steps:

1. Check Out our Current Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer openings are posted under Volunteer Opportunities. The individual opportunities’ listings provide the main duties and physical/special requirements for the volunteer position. Most volunteer openings focus on helping with day-to-day library tasks, special projects, or programs.

If there is a volunteer opening that matches your skills and needs, submit a volunteer application.

2. Complete a Volunteer Application and Record Check Forms

Please complete the MRL Volunteer Application in its entirety, sign and date and return to the address below. Prospective volunteers under the age of 18 must also have signed permission from their parent or legal guardian.

Prospective volunteers 18 years of age or older must complete the RPD and WCCF Record Reports and return to the address below. Please complete the top portion only, including signature and current date, of the Richmond Police Record Report and Wayne County Corrections Facility Record Report.

3. Prospective volunteers who may be considered for a particular volunteer assignment within the Library will be contacted for an interview.

4. Information that the prospective volunteer provides through the application and interview process is verified and references and background checks may be conducted.

5. Morrisson-Reeves Library Human Resources/Volunteer Services Manager contacts the prospective volunteer to offer the position.

6. Volunteer begins his or her volunteer assignment at Morrisson-Reeves Library.

Volunteer Basic Requirements

  • Must be dependable and reliable.
  • Must take direction and work independently.
  • Must communicate effectively and work well with others.
  • Must give attention to detail.
  • Must be able to tolerate repetitive motions, bending, reaching, stooping, sitting, and standing for long periods when necessary.
  • Must be 14 years of age or older. Age requirements may vary for particular assignments based on age-appropriateness or skills required for the position.
  • Must have successfully completed the volunteer application process including, but not limited to, completion of a volunteer application, successful criminal history checks, etc.
