New at MRL: Check Out Laptops

We’re enhancing your experience at Morrisson-Reeves Library with a convenient way to access technology. We’ve just added brand-new laptops and a variety of tech extras that you can check out for use in the library. This new service provides you with more flexibility and comfort as you utilize our resources. It’s all part of our ongoing commitment to making essential technology and internet access available to everyone in our community.

Your Mobile Workspace Awaits

Imagine being able to work or study anywhere in the library. By the cozy windows, in a quiet study room, or your favorite comfy chair. Now you can! Our new laptops are specifically for in-library use. They can be checked out for four hours with your valid library card. Each laptop comes loaded with all the essentials: Microsoft Office, a PDF editor, a media player, and Zoom. You can easily connect to our strong Wi-Fi network, giving you access to email, social media, cloud services, and everything else you’d normally do on a desktop computer.

Level Up Your Library Experience with Tech Extras

To make your experience even better, we’re also making several handy tech accessories available for checkout whenever you need them. These include:

  • Headphones with microphones
  • USB hubs
  • Portable DVD-RW drives
  • Computer mice

Just like the laptops, these accessories are exclusively for library cardholders and are meant to be used right here in the library.

Our Commitment to Digital Access, Thanks to Our Community

Providing computer and internet access to our community has been a core part of what we do for a long time. In fact, we first offered internet access to patrons all the way back in 1999! Even today, using our computers is super popular, with nearly 13,000 desktop computer sessions so far in 2024. Besides these new laptops, we also offer free Wi-Fi throughout our building and grounds for those who bring their own devices, and you can even check out mobile internet hotspots to take home.

We’re incredibly grateful for the funding that made these new laptops possible. A generous grant from the Wayne County Broadband Task Force’s Digital Literacy Training program and the Wayne County Foundation helped us bring this exciting new service to you. Their support is a testament to their commitment to increasing digital literacy, technology, and education.
