Bond Request Tabled at County Council Meeting
The Morrisson-Reeves Library Board’s request to issue an $18.72 million bond to fund crucial renovations to the library building was tabled by the Wayne County Council at the Wayne County Council/Commissioners’ Workshop on August 20, 2025. Hundreds of community members attended the meeting. Seventeen people in attendance spoke in support of the bond issuance. The resolution was tabled to allow further discussion between the County Council and the Library Board about the future of the Library Building.
“We are determined to continue our work with the Council, to ensure we can find a solution that all of us can agree addresses the significant need,” said Dena Little, MRL Director. “This project was developed after a thorough assessment of the building’s needs. Renovation of the building is needed to fix these issues and to create a more accessible, safe, and efficient library for our community.”
During the library’s presentation to Council, it was made clear that the library’s current building cannot continue to operate for much longer without these extensive repairs. Without the ability to issue a bond, renovation plans will remain paused indefinitely.
Library Services Will Continue
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the building, the Morrisson-Reeves Library Board wants to assure the community that its core mission to provide library services will not end. “While the future of our physical building is uncertain, I want our community to know that their library will still be here for them,” said Dena Little, Library Director. “I also want to express my sincere gratitude for the overwhelming turnout of library supporters who spoke and were present at the meeting. Their support means everything.”
The Library will continue sharing updates with the community as this process continues. The County Council will eventually need to approve or deny a resolution approving the Library’s issuance of bonds.
