Coming Soon: MRL Express Brings the Library to Your Neighborhood

Great news, Richmond and Wayne County! For the first time since 2009, Morrisson-Reeves Library is taking its services on the road.

Starting in early 2026, we will launch MRL Express, a new mobile outreach vehicle designed to bridge the gap between our main library building and the residents of Richmond and the 11 surrounding townships we serve. This initiative is all about meeting you where you are and ensuring that everyone in our service area has convenient access to books, technology, and library resources.

A Modern Mobile Branch

Building on the legacy of our previous bookmobile service, MRL Express introduces a fresh, open-air design.

This vehicle is a custom-modified Ford F350 featuring a specialized cargo box where the sides open up to reveal rows of shelving. This layout allows you to walk right up to the vehicle to browse and select materials, making it easy for patrons of all abilities to see what is available. Because the vehicle is built on a truck chassis, it is also more agile, allowing us to visit a wider variety of locations.

Services Available Onboard

MRL Express will function as a standalone mobile branch. When the truck pulls up, you will be able to:

  • Browse and Borrow: We will carry a rotating collection of popular books and materials for all ages.
  • Pick Up Holds: You can place holds on items online and schedule them to be picked up at any regular MRL Express book stop.
  • Access the Internet: The vehicle is equipped with an onboard cellular Wi-Fi hotspot to provide public internet connectivity.
  • Attend Programs: The vehicle allows us to host library programs outside the building, such as storytimes.

Expanding Access Across Wayne County

Our strategic goal is to provide equitable access to all residents. The MRL Express allows us to transport a larger selection of materials than our current outreach vehicle and establish regular stops throughout the county.

This service is funded through a combination of a grant from the Wayne County Foundation, the endowment funds, and tax revenue from the Wayne County Contractual Library. This support allows us to serve the 11 townships outside of Wayne Township that are part of our service area.

When Will MRL Express Start?

We are currently finalizing the route schedule, which will feature monthly stops at multiple locations in Richmond and the surrounding townships. The service is scheduled to begin in early 2026.

We will post the full schedule, including specific stop locations and times, on our website as soon as it is finalized. We look forward to seeing you on the road!
