Community Forum #2 Update: Layout Concepts
The second community forum for the Morrison-Reeves Library Building Masterplan, held during the week of February 24th, presented residents with proposed design concepts based on community feedback.
Community Feedback Fuels Design
The meeting began with a review of feedback gathered during previous community forums. Building upon previous discussions, attendees actively contributed feedback, reinforcing the community’s priorities. These include improving accessibility, expanding popular services such as meeting rooms and event spaces, addressing critical building concerns identified in the facility assessment, and establishing a larger, dedicated space for genealogy and local history.
Whitewater Community Television recorded the presentation, which is available for viewing here. A PDF version of the presentation can be downloaded here.
Building Layout Concepts Revealed
Kevin McCurdy of LWC showcased proposed building layout concepts, emphasizing the importance of creating spaces that serve all members of the community. Key plans included:
- Reorganizing Interior Spaces: The children’s, teens, and adult sections will be reimagined within the building, with a focus on creating a more accessible and welcoming environment.
- Dedicated Meeting Rooms: The library will include a variety of meeting rooms, ranging in size from small, intimate spaces to larger rooms suitable for larger gatherings.
- Enhanced Outdoor Areas: The plans include dedicated outdoor spaces for children, events, outdoor reading, connecting the library to Jack Elstro Park and Downtown.
- Dedicated History and Genealogy Room: A specialized space equipped with archival materials, digital resources, and expert staff to support patrons in research.
